AhlulBayt News Agency - One week after the massive assault by Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army’s “1st Coastal Brigade”, the Syrian Arab Army’s 48th Special Forces Regiment has retaken the initiative in northern Latakia as part of their latest attempt to cutoff the main rebel supply route from Turkey.
The SAA’s 48th Regiment – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) – launched an attack to cut the main rebel supply route along the road between Al-Hanboushiyah and Nariyah.
If the Syrian Armed Forces are able to cut this road in Jabal Turkmen (Turkmen Mountains), the extremist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army will be forced to find another route to transport their supplies through.
Currently, heavy fighting has been reported near this road, as the Syrian Armed Forces continue to bombard the area with a barrage of mortar shells and rockets.
In addition to the assault in Jabal Turkmen, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard has also restarted their attack at the strategic village of Kabani, where Jabhat Al-Nusra is attempting to fend off the government forces from advancing into the Jisr Al-Shughour countryside.
